Kernel
Groveller · 5'0 to 6'0
The Kernel is an odd-looking board until you ride one. Short, wide and flat with a distinctive parallel outline, it's built around one idea: generating and holding speed in small, weak surf. It does that better than almost anything else.
- Family
- Groveller
- Size range
- 5'0 to 6'0
- Fin set-up
- Twin or quad. The fins sit further back than on most boards, closer to the rails, which suits the wide outline and encourages a flowing, rail-to-rail style of surfing rather than pivoty snaps off the tail.
- Construction
- PU, EPS or agave blank, glassed with high bio-content epoxy resin.
Outline
Almost parallel rails from nose to tail, unusually wide for the length. The outline stays wide all the way through rather than tapering the way most boards do, maximising the planing surface and keeping the board fast across flat sections.
Rocker
Very low. As flat as it gets with a little flip in the nose. The minimal rocker is the whole point, keeping the board planing fast across flat sections where a higher-rockered board would stall.
Bottom contours
Single concave running the full length of the board. Simple and consistent, feeding speed from entry to exit without interruption and keeping the board fast and planted where other shapes would stall.
Rails and tail
Almost parallel rails from nose to tail, unusually wide for the length.
Good for
Small surf, speed generation, flat sections, surfers who want a fun alternative to a fish, and anyone who spends most of their time in average to poor conditions and wants to make the most of it.
